Walk 42 - Barrenjoey Lighthouse/Palm Beach

Barrenjoey Lighthouse/Palm Beach:    Our visit to Palm Beach was so worthwhile.   Far from the rain forecast  we had open blue skies and delightful  weather.   After meeting up in the car park we wandered along the 1 km.  distance to the steep steps leading up to the Lighthouse.   Yes, it was a bit steep and wet and rocky here and there but really relatively short so we got up to the top without mishap.  Up there we could take advantage of the magnificent views of Broken Bay, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and the Central Coast.  The track is known as Smugglers Track built in 1885 to monitor smugglers bringing contraband into the area.
Barrenjoey Lighthouse was built in 1881 from sandstone quarried on site.  The Lighthouse, keepers' cottages and oil room remain unpainted in original colour.
There is so much information about the Lighthouse and its history and also much written about the Headland.   The following site though is worth looking at (Please, please take a look - you will be absolutely fascinated and I know you will love the photographs there especially one taken from the air of the Headland jutting out into the sea, a fabulous photograph)

Thank you Marie-Claire for guiding, leading, informing us on this delightful Walk.  This is Marie-Claire's stamping ground and I have been wondering how many times, hundreds perhaps, that she has taken friends and family around the Headland or trekked up to the Lighthouse.
